The Red Rose County
The Lancashire County Water Polo & Swimming Association was formed in 1892 and has a long and proud history. It is one of the largest swimming Counties in the country and currently has just over 100 affiliated clubs in membership as well as leagues and local associations.
Since the regionalisation of the ASA in 2005 it has been one of the three sub-regional bodies in the ASA North West Region and is also in close partnership with Lancashire Sport, Greater Sport, and Merseyside Sport.
The Association is governed by an Executive Committee which is elected annually at the AGM which is usually held on the first Saturday in December. The Executive Committee usually meets every two months throughout the year. A list of the current members can be found on the Executive Committee 2008 page. In addition, there are four Sub-Committees: Swimming, Water Polo, Masters and Development.
In its early years the County, like most of the country, was primarily organised around Water Polo but this is no longer the case and Swimming is now far and away the largest discipline. The successful Swimming and Age Group Championships are held in March each year and in recent years have been staged at the Manchester Aquatics Centre. The County is extremely proud of its recent swimming history having won the ASA Inter-County title for the past six years in a row (2002 – 2007).
